The Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery was founded in Victoria, Australia in 1997. This state of the art facility offers cosmetic surgery together with other ancillary disciplines and prides itself on the service offered to patients. We have been successful in this effort because of our dedicated team of plastic surgeons, cosmetic surgery-trained nursing staff, and other support staff who are committed to providing patients with the best possible care and unparalleled results. One of our top plastic surgeons is Dr Morris Ritz.
Morris Ritz has been awarded the Synthes Prize for best publication from the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa as well as the Phyllis Knocker/Bradlow Award from The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa for the most distinguished graduate in academic excellence. He has gone on to be widely published and has presented extensively in Australia and overseas. Dr Ritz has a special interest in breast reconstruction, aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, and skin cancer surgery. Two of his specialist fields are Breast Reconstruction and Hand Surgery which incorporates Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction would be a procedure utilized by women who have lost a breast to cancer or women at high risk for breast cancer who wish to try a preventative measure against the disease. Through breast reconstruction, a new breast, very like a natural breast in form and appearance, is created as a substitute for the original. It is possible to have breast reconstruction done right after a mastectomy or it can be scheduled in on a later date. Breast reconstruction is a two-step procedure. The first step is to reconstruct the breast mound to the proper size and shape using either a patient's own tissues or perhaps a prostheses full of silicone or saline. Once the breast mound has been created, the nipple-areolar complex is made, using local flaps of skin and medical tattooing to create the required color. After a successful breast reconstruction, it is often required to lift or reduce the other breast to get a matching pair. Patients tend to be most pleased with the end product of the surgery.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome is really a condition resulting from pressure being placed on the main nerve to your hand. Repetitive movement of the wrist can cause this condition, and is characterised by tingling or lack of sensation in the fingers, pain in the hand or wrist, and weak hand muscles. Initial treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome may include avoiding activities that necessitate wrist movement, taking pain relievers, using cool icepacks to relieve any swelling, and wrapping the wrist in a splint to keep it immobile. Prolonged symptoms of over six months would usually lead to surgery which will relieve pressure on the nerve. Surgery for carpal tunnel syndromeis considered as minor surgery and would be treated as a day procedure. This surgery will probably be performed under local anesthetic or general anesthetic if required. This surgery will involve severing the band of tissue round the wrist which will cause the nerve pressure being relieved.
